Update: Burrows Not Suspended

League officials indicated Thursday afternoon that Vancouver Winger/Cannibal Alexandre Burrows would not be suspended for the incident which saw him bite the finger of Bruins' center Patrice Bergeron. This sends a terrible message. The fact that Burrows denied it is laughable. The video clearly shows him trying to surreptitiously hold and bite Bergy's gloved finger.

I would much rather a player do something obvious and dirty than try to sneak something cheap (and ultimately childish) by the refs, the cameras and the League. Burrows should be ashamed of himself, and his denial.

Of course, things like this are more likely to happen when face-washing is considered a limited(ly)-punishable offense. The more cheap, after-the-whistle stuff that we allow, the more people are going to retaliate in worse ways. I don't know exactly what I'd do to get some of the less physical, more "cheap" things out of the rink, but its probably something the league should look at.
